1 Drive unit

Powerful, low-noise gearbox, with hardened and ground gear wheels in a cast housing with oil immersion lubrication. Direct drive by means of clutch, with either AC or DC technology.

2 Barrel inlet

Designed specific to the raw material for optimum melt flow.

3 Temperature control

The barrel is split in several heating and cooling zones. Ceramic-insulated electric heaterbands are used for heating. Cooling is effected by means of air or liquids.

4 Feed hopper and dosing unit

The extruders can be supplied with feed hopper or dosing unit.

5 Vacuum venting

Monomer gases and volatile constituents, such as air and water vapour, are extracted by means of the vacuum venting unit.

6 Barrel

REIFENHÄUSER barrels are mainly manufactured from highly wear- or corrosion-resistant materials (bimetals). In addition, barrel zones that are subjected to extreme wear can be provided with hard-metal linings (PM-HIP technology) to minimize corrosion and wear problems and increase barrel lifetimes. The quality of the end product is essentially influenced by the characteristics of the screw/barrel unit.

7 Screws

The extruders are designed to suit the different raw materials and product requirements. The screw geometry will be adapted to the specific application. The screw design is based on values and material-specific behaviour of extruders used already in production operation. In addition, computer-aided screw geometry design is realised on the basis of mathematical-physical model laws.
