Careers at Reifenhäuser
Stephan Gerharz
Design engineer in the field of synthetic filament lines / non-woven fabric
Through a practical placement during my school years, I became interested in machinery manufacture. The fascination for this field has not abated since.
From 1993 to 1996, I completed an extensive and well-structured apprenticeship at Reifenhäuser, as industrial mechanic for the field of machine and systems engineering.
In September 1998, after I finished my education at the technical college and my military service, I enrolled at the Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (University of Applied Sciences) to study machine engineering, specialising in mechatronics. The integrated practical semester offered me the chance to implement the knowledge I have gained for specific tasks, and to gain experience in several companies.
Through my initial apprenticeship at Reifenhäuser, I experienced the high level of professional competence and cooperativeness that is offered. Therefore I applied to complete my graduate thesis at Reifenhäuser. My topic was: "Die Ausrüstung einer Walzenprüfeinrichtung mit speziellen Sensoren zur Funktionsüberprüfung von Walzen" (Equipping a roll testing device with special sensors for inspecting the functioning of the rolls). This thesis won the Hennecke award of the Gesellschaft der Förderer (Society of Sponsors) of the FH Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. The award praised the "outstanding technical quality, and in particular the interdisciplinary character and high practical relevance".
After completion of the thesis and my studies, I was employed by Reifenhäuser in December 2002. In addition to supervising the roll testing device, my duties include involvement in the mechanical construction and development of synthetic fibre lines.
